NTT SMARTCONNECT and Ooyala Announce Partnership

NTT SMARTCONNECT and Ooyala partner to sell co-branded video platform solutions in Japan

(Mountain View, CA) January 13, 2010 - Ooyala Inc., a leading provider of end-to-end video platform applications and services, today announced that it has entered into a partnership with NTT SMARTCONNECT, a subsidiary of NTT Holdings, Asia's biggest telecommunications company, to sell a localized and co-branded version of its video platform in Japan. This relationship establishes Ooyala's strong position as a leading video technology provider in Japan. NTT SMARTCONNECT and Ooyala will begin marketing and selling the new video platform in the Japanese market in February 2010. This deal comes on the heels of a “Memorandum of Understanding” that was signed by Ooyala Inc. and NTT Holdings earlier in the year that outlined specific capabilities that would be developed for the Japanese market.

Forrester Research recently ranked Ooyala as a leading provider of video platforms specifically emphasizing the company’s leadership in video analytics and monetization. "Ooyala's end-to-end video platform offers best-in-class video analytics and monetization capabilities," said Bobby Tulsiani, Sr. Analyst at Forrester Research.

NTT SMARTCONNECT has been providing enterprises in Japan with housing, hosting, and streaming media solutions for a decade. Based in Osaka, Japan, NTT SMARTCONNECT has some of Japan's biggest media companies as its customers, including MBS, and ABC. This partnership will allow NTT SMARTCONNECT customers to gain access to Ooyala’s comprehensive video platform, allowing companies to easily transcode, manage, distribute and monetize their video content. The platform's sophisticated real-time analytics engine gives content owners unparalleled visibility into how their content is being consumed. The relationship will allow NTT SMARTCONNECT to leverage Ooyala's new reseller platform, allowing them to manage and provision accounts from a single interface. This new product will help NTT SMARTCONNECT to more efficiently scale their video platform business.

“Ooyala’s video solution will give our customers access to the most sophisticated video platform on the market,” said Mitsuyoshi Okamoto, President of NTT SMARTCONNECT. “Video is becoming an important asset in all of our customers' online media strategies because it efficiently conveys messages and ideas,” he added. "We've known about Ooyala for almost two years and have been very impressed with their impressive growth and the way that they have led the way in terms of innovation."

"NTT SMARTCONNECT is one of the most respected Internet service providers in Japan,” says Jay Fulcher, President and CEO of Ooyala. "Japan has been one of our fastest growing markets, and the NTT SMARTCONNECT partnership will allow us to aggressively invest as we grow our market presence with media and non-media companies."

In November, Mitsuyoshi Okamoto and Jay Fulcher met at the Ooyala offices in Mountain View to sign the multi-year partnership agreement.
