Dalet Qualifies Quantum’s StorNext Storage Manager

Integration offers users seamless interoperability between production and archives for HD workflows

Dalet today announced that Quantum’s StorNext Storage Manager solution has been fully validated for the Dalet Enterprise Edition Media Asset Management (MAM) platform. The new integration optimizes interoperability for production storage and archiving for large-scale standard and high definition deployments which makes media-intensive operations such as conversions fast and fully transparent for users.

Using a storage area network (SAN) approach, the Dalet Enterprise Edition distributed application servers connect directly to the central storage using Fiber Channel to accelerate conversions, transfers and rendering, as well as facilitate complex media operations. The Quantum StorNext layer seamlessly manages the movement of media assets between production storage and tape libraries.

By unifying the production and archive storage spaces, large broadcasters and content producers benefit from better interoperability, significantly improved performance, and a lower total cost of ownership. Quantum’s StorNext solution covers the range of workflows supported by Dalet Enterprise Edition – including news, sports, entertainment production, program management and corporate archives – and in the process provides improved bandwidth, reliability, and scalability. In addition, StorNext also supports complex operations such as edit while record, or play-out while render with the full range of video formats supported by Dalet.

“Quantum is excited to be expanding our relationship with Dalet,” said Shawn Klein, Director of Software Partner Development for Quantum. “They have become a recognized leader in asset management and workflow integration across news, sports and other programming environments. By qualifying StorNext Storage Manager, Dalet will now be able to provide its customers with transparent access to multi-tiered architectures across disk and tape, as well as vaulting.”

“Making HD content readily available for desktop production while managing ingest, playout, and archives is a bit of a challenge, one that requires a sophisticated file management system to negotiate the bandwidth and performance especially in large-scale workgroups,” comments said Kevin Savina, Director of Product Management, Dalet. “Managing HD content beyond the production pipe into the content archives is the ideal workflow but an even greater challenge as this adds complexities of negotiating file transfers between multiple vendor technologies. Our qualification of Quantum’s StorNext solution provides a file management layer that enables a fluid media workflow whether content is online, near online or offline.”

Both Quantum Corporation and Dalet Digital Media Solutions are exhibiting this week at the International Broadcasting Convention in Amsterdam on stands Hall 7 G.29 and Hall 8 B.77 respectively.
