Key Enterprise Edition Enhancements Showcased at IBC 2010

Latest version offers fully integrated creative and editorial tools for News, Sports and Program production with MAM and workflow automation

Dalet will showcase Dalet Enterprise Edition, their flagship News and Media Asset Management (MAM) solution, featuring its new Workflow Engine at the IBC 2010 exhibition, held in Amsterdam from September 10 – 14 in Hall 8, on Stand B77. This latest version of Dalet Enterprise Edition offers the only solution on the market that fully integrates leading-edge creative and editorial tools for News, Sports and Program production with MAM and workflow automation.

“Many broadcasters want to make significant changes in the way they work,” says Raoul Cospen, Dalet’s Director of Marketing. “They need more efficient production processes, and they want to adopt a policy of 360° delivery, offering content to the widest possible audience of viewers using many different channels – from conventional television to mobile phones and online. Dalet gives its customers a whole range of flexible tools to achieve these new business objectives, but does so in a way that is simple to implement. By leveraging our open and integrated approach, Dalet Enterprise Edition elegantly addresses integration issues reducing the cost of implementation and support, while improving productivity.”

The new version of Enterprise Edition perfectly matches the requirements of News and Sports divisions, as well as production and program production departments thanks to very flexible workflows that adapt to many different ways of operating.

In the Newsroom, Dalet Enterprise Edition embodies the principle of a story-centric process, in which all departments of the newsroom can collaborate – from the news desk, planning coverage and production to the output department. In the story-centric model, separate elements such as video, audio, text, graphics, web links, wires, planning information and so on, are brought together into a “story”. This type of organization simplifies both content management and repurposing for multi-platform use. One example is the ability to include multiple graphics tracks in different languages directly in the timeline of the Dalet MediaCutter for multi-channel, multi-language broadcasting; or the capabilities to generate a web story, a mobile version, or a podcast in just a click.

Dalet’s creative tools are underpinned by a fully integrated MAM system and workflow automation tools. This allows repetitive functions to be executed automatically according to a set of established rules.

Dalet Enterprise Edition meets also the needs of production and program preparation with its MAM platform. The new version of Dalet Enterprise Edition offers the typical functions such as massive ingest, manual and auto QC, metadata gathering, search and archiving, and so on.

Because seamless integration is extremely important, the latest version now includes the capability to package some of the native functions of Dalet as “widgets” for easy integration into third-party applications such as intranet portals. These include:

• A preview window tool for video professionals using streaming video
• Dalet Story Boarder, which allows users to better collaborate, share clips and easily pre-edit content
• A Media Logger that facilitates faster media logging

Since its inception, Dalet Enterprise Edition has been developed following the principles of SOA (Service Oriented Architecture) that not only allows Dalet to integrate many functions within one unified package, but enables the development of a wide range of APIs to ease integration with third-party systems.

“State-of-the-art creative, production and delivery capabilities, built on the Dalet MAM platform: that is the Dalet offering,” says Raoul Cospen. “We believe it offers broadcasters the opportunity to make necessary changes to their operational processes without going through the pain of integrating it all themselves.”

The latest version of Dalet Enterprise Edition also includes many new features, such as:

  • The new Dalet Story Boarder, a tool that allows any user to select, organize shots and perform pre-editing tasks in a collaborative way.
  • Dalet OneCut, the audio editor, is now available in the latest version of Dalet Enterprise Edition.
  • New functionalities in Dalet MediaCutter, the integrated multimedia timeline – including new effects such as blur; multiple CG tracks; the ability to burn in CGs, and much more.
  • Improved massive ingest capabilities.
  • New integration with third-party systems such as Rhozet, Signiant and Interra.
  • Glossaries are now integrated in Dalet Enterprise Edition to help users enter metadata and improve metadata accuracy.
